Tipperary Boy Finn O'shea Is Living Proof Of Organ Donation's

In an effort to promote public discussion around organ donation, An Post is proud to support this week’s National Organ Donation Awareness Week, organised by the Irish Kidney Association in partnership with the Irish Organ Donation and Transplant Association. Click here for details.

Kidney transplant recipient Finn O'Shea, from Shamrock Hill in Clooney, Dublin, attended a photo call at the GPO in O'Connell Street, Dublin, to showcase his incredible organ donation success – he celebrated his 10th birthday last Monday, during Organ Donation Awareness Week.

On the same day he appeared on RTÉ's children's news programme News2Day.

Finn is the son of postman Eoin O'Shea and his wife Lisa, from Clonmel. Finn, a patient at CHI Temple Street, was born with underdeveloped kidneys but underwent kidney transplant surgery in February 2023, ending a lifelong illness and the final two years of night-time dialysis treatments.

His mother, Lisa, said: “Finn has made a remarkable recovery since his transplant and is now set to have a normal childhood. We are beyond grateful to his late donor's family for the incredible gift they have given us.”

Lisa added: “Ann Post have supported us throughout Finn's health journey and shown great compassion by allowing Eoin, who works as a postman in Clonmel, to take time off work to look after Finn. We'd like to thank our local postmaster, Dick Nugent.”

“It's fantastic that An Post is supporting a national organ donation awareness campaign which gives hope to families like ours.”

At the heart of this partnership between the Irish Kidney Association and An Post is a commitment to raising awareness of organ donation within communities across the country.

The key message of the campaign is “Don't doubt your loved ones”. Share your wishes about organ donation. #LeaveNoDoubt.

This simple message captures the importance of letting your loved ones know your wishes regarding organ donation.
