Cheryl Melker underwent the world's first fully robotic double lung transplant on October 22nd at New York University Langone Health Center in Manhattan.

Meaker, a doctor, had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for 10 years, but his condition worsened after experiencing a bout with the coronavirus. She spent years researching solutions before qualifying for this procedure.

This technique is based on minimally invasive surgery and aims to reduce hospital stay and recovery period.

Almost a month has passed since the surgery, and Meakar is just days away from being discharged from the hospital.
