Ireland all-rounder Simi Singh is in a critical condition due to acute liver failure and is in urgent need of a transplant.
Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Dutrom confirmed the situation, saying it was “devastating” to learn that 37-year-old Singh was seriously ill. I will offer my prayers.” .
Singh, who experienced health problems in Ireland, returned to India for treatment earlier this summer.
Singh is awaiting a transplant at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, and his wife Agamdeep will donate part of his liver, Indian Publications reported.
“The transplant is likely to take place soon and doctors are confident that the results will be favorable to Simi and give him a new lease of life,” the cricketer's father-in-law Parvinder Singh told The Indian Publication spoke.
Dutrom called Singh “a mainstay in Irish cricket, whether it's at international, local or club level”.
“His determination and ambition to succeed was evident,” Dutrom continued.
“We now hope that his same determination will help him overcome his current situation. Stay strong, Simi. We are all supporting you.”
Singh has represented Ireland in 35 One-Day Internationals and 53 T20s, including the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cup tournaments.
