Irish all-rounder Simi Singh says his liver transplant surgery was successful and he is now on the road to recovery. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Simi was suffering from acute liver failure and needed a transplant.

“Hello Guys. I would like to inform you that I have had liver transplant surgery. It was a 12 hour surgery and I am currently recovering. I made a mistake in prescribing antibiotics and steroids which caused my liver failure. I was very lucky to have a wife who ended up being my donor. I want to thank everyone for their messages and prayers,” Simi wrote on his Instagram Story.

Simi fell ill in Ireland and returned to India in June this year for further treatment. After treatment at PGI Chandigarh, doctors realized that Simi had acute liver failure and referred him to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.

His father-in-law Parvinder Singh said at the time that Simi's wife Agamdeep was planning to donate part of his liver to give the cricketer a new life. Simi's progress with his health was confirmed by Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Dutrom, who hailed him as a key all-round figure in Irish cricket at international, local and club level.

Simi, 37, has played 35 ODIs for Ireland and 53 T20Is, including playing for his country at the Men's T20 World Cup in 2021 and 2022. Born and raised in Mohali, Simi moved to Ireland in 2005 but was unable to break into senior cricket in India, making his debut for Ireland in 2017.

So far, he has picked 39 wickets in ODIs and apart from an unbeaten century against South Africa, his best figures are 5/10. Simi also has 44 wickets to his name in T20Is, apart from achieving 50 wickets in the format for Ireland. (Agent)
