New Delhi: Irish cricket All-rounder Simi Singh has undergone a successful liver transplant and is recovering.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Singh was suffering from acute liver failure and needed a transplant.
“Hello Guys. I would like to inform you that I have had liver transplant surgery. It was a 12 hour surgery and I am currently in the recovery phase. “This is a case of incorrectly prescribing antibiotics and steroids which led to liver failure. I was very lucky to have a wife who ended up being my donor. I want to thank everyone for their messages and prayers,” Singh wrote on his Instagram Story.
Singh fell ill in Ireland and returned to India in June for further treatment.
Doctors at PGI Chandigarh diagnosed him with acute liver failure and referred him to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.
Father-in-law Parvinder Singh revealed that Singh's wife Agamdeep had donated part of her liver to save him. Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Dutrom confirmed the development and underlined Singh's importance to Irish cricket.
The 37-year-old cricketer has played 35 ODIs and 53 T20Is for Ireland and appeared in the 2021 and 2022 Men's T20 World Cups.
