Indian-born Irish all-rounder Simi Singh on road to recovery after successful liver transplant

Ireland all-rounder Simi Singh has revealed on his Instagram Stories that he has undergone a successful liver transplant and is on the road to recovery. A week ago, it was reported in the Times of India that the 37-year-old had been diagnosed with acute liver failure and had been given many days to live.

The report further said that he is waiting for a liver transplant in the ICU of Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.

Finally, Simi Singh got an Instagram handle and posted on her story yesterday:

“Hi Guys. I would like to inform you that I had a liver transplant surgery. The surgery lasted 12 hours and I am currently in the recovery phase. The antibiotics and steroids I was prescribed were incorrect and caused liver failure. “I'm in a lot of trouble.'' I was lucky to have a wife who ended up being the donor. I would like to thank everyone for their messages and prayers. ”

Simi Singh started feeling unwell in Ireland a few months ago and came to India in June for treatment.

He was referred to Medanta Hospital after doctors at PGI Chandigarh diagnosed him with acute liver failure. Simi's father-in-law Parvinder Singh revealed that Simi's wife Agamdeep donated part of her liver to save his life.


Simi Singh last played for Ireland in 2022

Even before his recent liver problems, Simi Singh had not been favored to represent Ireland in any format for the past two years. The 37-year-old last played for them in the T20 World Cup in October 2022.

The spin bowling all-rounder was a regular member of Ireland's ODI and T20I squad for five or six years until 2022. Simi Singh played 35 ODIs and 53 T20Is and took a total of 83 wickets at good economy rates of 3.99 and 7.61. each.

The Indian-born all-rounder was also a valuable batsman, especially in ODIs, averaging nearly 23 hits, including a century and a half.

Despite showing impressive all-round performances in white-ball formats and first-class cricket, Simi Singh was not considered in Ireland's Test set-up for many years. The veteran cricketer averaged an impressive 25.25 with the ball and 36 with the willow in 13 first-class matches.
