Senator David Norris is currently recovering in the hospital after undergoing a six-hour liver transplant surgery.
Mr Norris was admitted to St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Dublin last week to undergo surgery, which was required after a cancerous growth was discovered.
Mannix Flynn, a friend of Mr. Norris, said today that the surgery was a success and the senator is recovering well.
“He’s a tough guy. After taking care of the public for so long, it’s time for David to start taking care of himself.
“I’m very happy that the surgery was a success,” Flynn said. Asked when Norris would return to work, Flynn added:
before administering general anesthesia. ”
Mr Norris, 69, has previously spoken publicly about his health complaints.
In September last year, he revealed how his medical team had managed to “significantly” reduce the size of a major tumor in his liver.
But he also revealed how his team told him he needed a transplant.
He said his cancer was “inoperable” and could not be removed by surgery. Doctors suggested a liver transplant might be his best hope for recovery.
The former presidential candidate also said he believes his illness is related to the stress he has endured over the past few years.
tumor
He said: “This is an inoperable cancer, a tumor in the liver.
“This has to do with the fact that I had viral hepatitis 20 years ago and due to the stress I’ve been under over the past few years, it came back as cancer.”
However, he always remained optimistic and positive about the future. Flynn said her friend isn’t the only one in need of a transplant, but many others have their lives put on hold while on the transplant list, such as people with cystic fibrosis.
“Dr. Norris is not alone. There are tens of thousands of people living with liver disease, and many more surgeries will be needed in the future,” he said.
