Doctors told Amy Fitzpatrick's mother that she would die unless she received a liver transplant.
Audrey Fitzpatrick, 45, whose 15-year-old daughter Amy went missing in Spain and was believed to be dead, was devastated when she was told her daughter had a fatal liver disease and needed surgery.
Audrey, who lives in Marbella, Spain with her partner Dave Mahon, was hit with the bad news after being rushed into hospital last Thursday after falling ill.
Speaking at the Costa del Sol hospital, Mahon said: “We have only just heard the news.
“The doctors told us she needed a new liver and would die if she didn't get a transplant.”
On January 27, the mother appeared distraught as she attended a hearing into the stabbing death of her son Dean in May last year.
And Dave revealed that Audrey will be spending even more time in Ireland undergoing treatment.
He told the Irish Daily Star: “I'm waiting for the doctor's report and will send it to Audley's doctor in Dublin.”
“Then we’ll see how long she has to wait.
“But she'll be getting it in Ireland, not Spain.”
