Hundreds of organ donor families and transplant recipients gathered last week for the Irish Kidney Society's annual service of remembrance and appreciation.
Frances Moynihan, Treasurer of Waterford Branch of the Irish Kidney Association (IKA), along with her husband Joe, who is also a branch member, said she was humbled to represent Waterford at the 39th annual service. He said he felt honored.
The service will take place on Saturday, October 12, at Holy Child Church, Whitehall, Dublin 9, and will reflect on the life-saving gift of a transplant from both deceased and living donors to transplant recipients and their families. provided an opportunity.
A variety of faith communities, along with people of individual faiths and convictions, came together to participate in a deeply moving and deeply respectful interchurch service.
Celebrants and believers from various congregations and those whose lives have been deeply touched by the gift of organ donation or transplantation were in attendance.
Living donors and selfless donors who donated their organs to others when they passed away were remembered and honored.
For donor families, it was a touching moment to honor the memory of their loved one and the incredible gift they gave to those in need of organ transplants, including kidneys, hearts, lungs, livers and pancreases.
More than 1,000 people attended the multi-denominational service, which Frances and Joe described as “deeply moving and emotional.”
The event was planned and hosted by national staff and directors of the Irish Kidney Association.
