Srigo women are recognized as the world's longest-lasting single lung transplant recipient at an event in Dublin.
Vera Dwyer, 77, was diagnosed with irreversible, chronic and ultimately fatal fibrotic lung disease 30 years ago.
Her condition deteriorated rapidly and remained tied to the bed.
She underwent a single lung transplant in the UK in 1988 as a lifesaving business.
At the time, such procedures were not available in Ireland.
Ms Dwyer was awarded a gold medallion by the Irish Heart and Lung Lung Transplant Association at Maternal and Child Hospital, Dublin.
The mother of four, with seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, also had a kidney transplant in 2009 and had hip replacement surgery in May 2018.
She has been caring for the National Heart and Lung Transplant Team at Matter Hospital in Dublin since opening in 2003.
