Several hospital staff later stopped due to the tragic incident
The man, declared dead at Kentucky Hospital, was taken to the operating room for organ donation when several hospital staff quickly realized something was wrong.
Natasha Miller told NPR that nurses are preparing organ preservation for transplants when they move. However, Miller reveals that despite being declared dead, the man appeared very alive.
“He was moving around, it was like thrashing. He was moving around on the bed, he was moving around,” Miller said in an interview.
“And as we went there he could see tears falling down. He was visibly crying.”
The operating room at Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond, Kentucky, was unsure of finding him alive, including two doctors who refused to take part in organ recovery.
Miller explains that the procurement surgeon quickly stated. “I'm off of it. I don't want to have anything to do with it.”
“It was very confusing. Everyone was very upset.”
The organ procedures were cancelled immediately, but several hospital workers later ended about the October 2021 incident.
“That's everyone's worst nightmare, right? Do you know that you're alive during the surgery and someone will cut you open and remove your body parts?” cried out Nyckoletta Martin, a former organ conservator at the hospital.
“That's scary.”
