The Claire branch of the Irish Kidney Association says it is “very intensely lobbying” for Claire's dialysis unit on this world's kidney day.
In conjunction with the annual awareness day that has revolved around again, the Irish Kidney Association, or IKA, has launched a “1 in 10 people” campaign to shed light on kidney health awareness.
According to IKA, the campaign aims to make people more aware of their kidney-related health.
It is estimated that one in 10 people in Ireland and one in seven people over 50 live with chronic kidney disease or CKD.
Of these, an astounding 98% don't know that by 2040 there is a 5th major cause of death here.
Clare people who currently need kidney care must go to either Limerick University Hospital or a satellite centre on Dock Road, Limerick.
At one point, the HSE had said that Ennis Hospital had a dialysis unit by the end of the year, but this was pushed back in November 2026.

At this week's Clare County Council meeting, Clare Castle Sinfein Councillor Tommy Gilfoyle expressed the move seeking clarity regarding the delivery of the Ennis dialysis unit.
Specifically, he requests an exact timeline for starting the service, verifying its location, details of the contractor, and checking the current status of the project.
He says that much of the county is confused and that answers are an urgent matter.
