Stephen, a 32-year-old designer from Dublin, began taking photos of 18-month-old Hannah when she was discharged from hospital after undergoing bone graft surgery at 10 months old, reports Independent.ie.

“She has a very rare immune disorder called HLH and spent six months of the first year of her life in hospital undergoing chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, which is the only cure,” Steven told Huh Magazine.

“Of the 27 million donors worldwide, three were deemed suitable and donated by an anonymous German woman. We missed a lot of normality during the first year, so now that we're out of quarantine and able to do normal things, I'm taking lots of photos.”

Stephen hopes the popularity of the photo will help raise awareness about becoming a bone marrow donor.

He also hopes the photo will make people stop and think: “Wait a minute, is he…?”

“I thought it would be fun to put a sensitive human being in a dangerous situation and make his family worry,” he said.

“Most of the reactions were positive, but some people didn't get the joke and commented, 'He should be shot.'”
