The Leukemia and Bone Marrow Trust (BMLT), a voluntary registered charity, is providing €750,000 in funding to help Trinity College and St James's Hospital in Dublin strengthen their cancer treatment and research. This generous gift will fund a new position as assistant professor of hematology, a critical position for building research capacity that will ultimately benefit patients with leukemia and related diseases.
Vacancies for the BMLT Assistant Professor position will be announced shortly by Trinity University School of Medicine.
Bone Marrow for Leukemia Trust is dedicated to supporting patients and their families living with leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders. BMLT is funding the refurbishment of the specialist transplant unit at St James's Hospital, helping medical teams provide the best possible care. This support is divided into her four main areas. Financial support for patients. Dennis Burkitt Stem Cell Transplant Unit and associated day care center. Off-hospital accommodation for patients and their families. Research and development of better ways to manage leukemia and related diseases.
The Trust's chairman, Professor Sean McCann, is a former professor of haematology at Trinity University, who performed the first successful bone marrow transplant for leukemia in Ireland in 1984 and founded the National Stem Cell Transplant Service. Professor McCann has dedicated his life to treating patients with blood disorders.
